LATEST: PayByLink is launched: an innovative payment solution for SME retailers |

A new service enables freelancers and small businesses to collect payment by simply emailing their customers a link to a secure standalone payment page. PayByLink, launched by CardSave, the small business card payments specialists, empowers businesses to combat the 'cheque is in the mail' syndrome, by giving their customers the opportunity to pay immediately – even whilst the businessman waits on the phone.
The government has demonstrated that it is keen to help SMEs to combat late payments by calling for businesses to work together to develop a solution for this growing issue. Mark Prisk, the Business and Enterprise Minister, recently hosted a workshop with industry bodies to agree on a plan of action to fight the culture of late payments, part of which concentrated on extending the Prompt Payment Code.
Clive Kahn, CEO of CardSave comments: “While we support the government's efforts to help small businesses collect cash quicker, we wanted to give the SME owner better control of this growing phenomenon and the impact it has on cashflow. PayByLink, which requires no website or shopping cart, enables any business to request payments at any time. It works equally for service- or product-based businesses and is great for anything from chasing late payment of a cheque to simply levying fees for services such as home laundry.”
The PayByLink system generates a single or multi-use web link which merchants pre-set with the amount to be charged, a unique reference number and a date by when this becomes overdue. This link is emailed to the customer who then simply clicks the link and via secure payment page enters their credit or debit card details for the payment to be processed almost instantly.
Alongside PayByLink, CardSave offers a free merchant management system, providing real time reporting of payments, which can be exported to almost any accountancy package, plus ongoing maintenance and-UK based telephone support.
Kahn concludes: “This service is ideal for any small business owner, freelancer or merchant looking to produce a simple to use, online invoicing system. For builders, beauticians, micro-retailers or even personal trainers, PayByLink is a smart way to chase outstanding payments, and can be the best solution for receiving one-off payments. It is also ideal for taking payments before a service is rendered. The combined management system puts merchants firmly in charge of payment schedules, enhancing their business processes by tracking and controlling payments from the offset. ”
A YouGov survey commissioned by CardSave revealed that almost two thirds of people carry £20 or less on their person, while the average card transaction at small, independent merchants in February was for £64.27. PayByLink supports businesses looking to capitalise on a payment culture where consumers no longer carry the cash required to settle bills instantly.
