18 ATTIRE BTAA News Attire Accessories’ rounds up of the BTAA Fashion Accessory of the Year award winners www.btaa.org.uk The BTAA held its annual Fashion Accessory of the Year awards, 2017, on the first day of Autumn Fair at NEC. The prestigious awards ceremony celebrates the best in functional fashion and design across the travel goods, handbags and fashion accessories industry and is sponsored by supporters to the industry Attire Accessories , Spring Fair and Autumn Fair. The awards scheme is now in its seventh year and attracted a wide variety of products encompassing categories such as Made in Britain, Fashion Jewellery, Fashion handbags, Fashion Accessories, Luggage & Travel and Small Leather Goods, culminating in a Judges Choice award, the ultimate accolade for the Fashion Accessory of the year awards. The BTAA will be celebrating a very special birthday next year – 100 years! – and as an association, utilised its connections with key industry professionals to judge the competition. The judges compared the entered products on a selection of merits from product originality, innovative eye-catching design to commercial viability. Judges this year included Laura Sutherland, Editor of Attire Accessories , Amanda Partridge, Womenswear, Accessories & Intimate Apparel Buyer/Selector for Associated Independent Stores, Martin Foster, Managing Director of Lakeland Leather, Nigel Lea and the British Allied Trade Federation’s (BATF) very own International Services Manager, Rebecca Gough. Winners receive £500 towards their stand at Autumn Fair 2018, where they can showcase their products in front of buyers from around the world. AND THE WINNER IS… We’ve had an amazing response to this year’s awards, with such a high standard of entries and wide variety of products, showcasing the design innovations that are defining the industry at the moment. With the last few years of uncertainty within our sector, it’s great to see that so many companies are still revolutionising the fashion sector by creating new and exciting products.
