ATTIRE 15 NEWS AND EVENTS The atmosphere was buoyant at Scotland’s Trade Fair Spring in Glasgow, which took place from 21 st - 23 rd January. Despite some terrible Scottish weather with snow, rain and gales, retailers were keen to place orders and be inspired with new products, following the highly successful 2017 season. Praise was given to the high quality of products and exhibitors that make up Scotland’s Trade Fair, which has improved dramatically over the last decade. Gone are the days of ‘tartan tat’ and many visitors commented on the incredibly high quality, well designed and inspirational products that graced almost all stands. Textiles and clothing was a growth area for the 2018 show and was warmly welcomed. The Best Product Awards were judged at the opening of the show with the judges praising the innovation and strength of the entries. Judge Gemma McQue buyer from National Trust for Scotland said, “The entries were very strong and varied and we were particularly struck by the quality and production of the home-produced items. It’s also among our absolute top countries in terms of exhibitors. I’m confident that its presentation will be a real highlight at Ambiente 2019.” The partner country globe is always handed over at a ceremony in honour of the current partner country.The country that receives the globe can then present itself at a special show at the next Ambiente.This year’s presentation was staged by the Netherlands. This was the eighth time that the partner country globe was handed to another country at Ambiente: After Denmark, France, Japan, the United States, Italy, the UK and the Netherlands, the Republic of India will thus be at the focus of visitors to the forthcoming show.The presentation of a partner country is one of the most popular shows at Ambiente, alongside the Trend Show, and draws large audiences. Visitors and exhibitors can already look forward to exciting stimuli as well as a new perspective on present-day Indian design. The next Ambiente will be held from 8 th to 12 th February, 2019.
