Attire Accessories - May/Jun 2018 (Issue 70)

ATTIRE 9 EDITOR’S LETTER E ver since the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was announced last year, my inbox has been filled with Royal Wedding fever. It seems that jewellers, accessory designers, nay, even the interiors world, is falling over themselves to emulate Meghan’s style, anticipate her possible wedding look, and create lines that are hoped to lure in the avid Royalist. And, I’m not ashamed to say, I’m hooked. Coupled with the fact that, coincidentally, Pantone’s colour of the year, Ultra Violet, is a purple hue long associated with Royalty, throw in Princess Eugenie’s upcoming nuptials, and it seems no industry in the UK can escape our Great British monarchy this year. So, heeding the immortal words, ‘if you can’t beat them, join them,’ I’ve paid homage to this current trend and asked a few of our favourite accessory companies to tell us what they would dress Meghan in for her big day or honeymoon, given the chance – check out page 66 for our Royal Wedding feature. Meanwhile on page 122 we’ve showcased how you can nail the Ultra Violet movement and cheer on the happy couple with a window dressing feature based on this beautiful hue – your boutique will have never looked prettier. Of course, we have the regular need- to-knows to keep abreast of consumer trends, with a first-look round-up of men’s accessories (83), silver & gold jewellery (97), handbags (51) and, in time for the big day, a party accessories highlight on page 77. If you’re looking ahead to the summer show circuit, never fear. This issue we put the spotlight on Pulse (29) and Fashion SVP (45), while also getting the lowdown on February’s Pure London show (43). I’m a magpie. Present me with something gold and sparkly, and I’m sold. My jewellery collection is updated frequently with more and more complementing pieces – hence my adoration for these stackable rings by SVP Jewellery. As an unashamed jewellery hoarder, anything that has the option for repeat purchase gets my vote. Luckily for me, and you, there’s even more store-front worthy pieces in our Silver & Gold Jewellery feature on page 97 to drool over. Louise Prance Acting Editor Louise 51
