EDITOR’S
LETTER
I know you’ve probably
heard this several times
in the past couple of
months, but this is the
best summer we’ve had
for years ‒ at least it is
to my memory. I hope
you’ve all been taking
every opportunity to don your statement
shades and strappy sandals and enjoy these
unprecedented temperatures. However,
with the arrival of the September shows
comes the reality that we’re now between
seasons. Trend-seeking retailers will be
stocking up for winter, while the fashion
pack and designers will be looking even
deeper into their crystal balls for spring/
summer 2015. Get prepared for new
silhouettes, shades, prints and motifs.
September and October sees Autumn
Fair, IJL, Top Drawer, London Fashion
Week and INDX take place. With such a
broad spectrum of events showcasing the
latest and greatest accessory brands, it can
be hard to keep up with what and who to
look out for at each individual show. To
help with identifying ones-to-watch, we’ve
included extensive exhibition guides for all
of these fairs in this bumper-sized issue.
This year, I’ve also been given the
incredible honour of joining the BTAA’s
Fashion Accessory of the Year Award
judging panel. I look forward to working
with some of the industry’s most
knowledgeable insiders and reviewing all of
your fabulous designs.
The Christmas party season may seem
some way off yet, but those of us in the
fashion wholesale industry have to keep
one eye at least six months ahead at all
times. Which is why my head has been
full of festive gems, sparkly heels and, of
course, my personal favourite bijoux clutch
bags ‒ see
To have and to hold
on page 103.
Who needs space for anything more than
lipstick and spare change when it’s time for
festive fizz and embarrassing dance moves?
Winter also spells the start of the big chill,
which calls for some insider tips on the best
boots (
Starting off on the right boot
, page 67)
and the cosiest woollen warmers (
We’ve got
it covered
, page 89).
As well as our regular news, features
and interviews, we also have a competition
prize: luxury, bespoke foil-printed carrier
bags worth £500 RRP, which comes
courtesy of jewellery label Morplan
(page 23).
Happy reading,

After spending a working week lugging
cumbersome totes, I love the freedom that
a little clutch bag gives you when a night on
the tiles comes a-calling.This little oval gem
from Stacy Chan caught my eye at Scoop
International ‒ it’s ideal to dial up a little black
dress, and would sate my need for a Fabergé
egg until the funds become available!
