BRITISH CRAFT TRADE FAIR 43 Taking place across three days in April, The British Craft Trade Fair (BCTF) will showcase the UK’s best creations across a wide range of categories including jewellery, glassware, metalwork, fine art, greetings cards, ceramics, fashion accessories and homewares. The event is designed to help retailers source exciting British-designed goods with sound provenance and heritage values. The 2019 event will mark the show’s 45 th year, and its organisers will be hosting hundreds of designer-makers at the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate. Trade prices for the many handmade works on display will start from just a few pounds, with all exhibitors guaranteed to be based in Great Britain and Ireland. “Research by online trade show The Great British Exchange has shown that the consumer appetite for authentic products is running at an all-time high, as people look to support more local, sustainable businesses and seek beautifully designed pieces that are of sound provenance,” explains show organiser, Margeret Bunn. “This research is backed up by the strong anecdotal feedback we are receiving from retailers visiting the show and followers on our social media sites. If ever there was a time to support our heritage industries and homespun designer-makers then this is it!” Among the many regular visitors is Rachael Chambers, owner and director of Ferrers Gallery in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. “I have been coming to BCTF for many years and it is the one trade show that I always attend,” she says. “We only stock British-made craftsmanship, so it means we can choose from all the designer-makers at the show, which isn’t possible at other events.” This year’s highlights will include the show’s annual awards. “Once again, we will hold the BCTF Awards on Monday evening,” continues Margeret. “We are delighted to welcome a raft of excellent judges and sponsors, some of whom are participating for the first time this year.” THE CREATIVE COLLECTIVE The best of the British craft industry are set to shine at BCTF Who: British Craft Trade Fair, bctf.co.uk What: The great and the good of the craft world come together to showcase their offerings Where: Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate When: 7 th -9 th April, 2019 The 2019 categories and sponsors will include: • BCTF Award for Excellence (Pyramid Gallery, York) • Best Newcomer Award (Heart Gallery, Hebden Bridge) • Post Newcomer Award (ACID) • The Giftware Association Award for Excellence • Award for Excellence in Jewellery (National Association of Jewellers) Visitors can also expect valuable industry insights and expert advice at the show. “We are looking forward to welcoming some great speakers to our onsite content theatre, including Ian Retallick, the founder of Specialist Retailers, a training company aimed at transforming independent retailers into highly sought-after outlets,” adds Margeret.
