PROFILE 99 TROOP LONDON T: +44 (0)20 8144 0884 W: trooplondon.com What trade shows do you attend and why? We currently exhibit at The Torquay Leather Fair, Spring Fair, Moda, ILM, Mipel, Canton Fair, Ambient, Harrogate, Autumn Fair and Glee but are hoping to visit more shows. We love meeting our customers for product feedback and just a general chatter about putting the world to rights. What are your current best-selling designs? It sounds a bit big-headed, but most of our designs sell really well; something that doesn’t sell well in the UK will sell really well in Spain, France or somewhere else in Europe. How do you view the current market, and what trends – both in business and product – do you see emerging over the coming months? Since the banking crisis in 2008, both retail and wholesale have struggled. But I think companies have had to become stronger for it – if a business is stable to good, then they’re winning. Trends in unisex bag designs will always come and go from season to season, but the challenge for us is maintaining the traditions in old fashion bag-making while retaining our classic timeless look. We then combine this with modern practicability to carry today’s cutting-edge tech. Do you have any thoughts on how Brexit will affect your business? If the UK does not secure a good trade agreement, then it will spell disaster for UK companies wanting to export into Europe. Countries like Norway, who are not strictly in the EU, are so expensive to export to that my fear is my regular European customers will just look for alternative suppliers within the EU. What are your future plans for the business? We are now making for and supplying to many countries around the globe and are looking to expand in that area. However, as long as the product keeps developing to the highest standards, everything else should fall into place.
