Customers are making a special journey to come and find us and once they have, they are loyal and invested, being able to continue their journey through our online store and social media channels”. have a plant shed, full of green grasses, succulents and cacti with an array of ceramic pots and vases to suit. And the in- store ‘Hydration Station’ is open for anyone needing to refill their water bottles, helping to reduce single use plastic and encourage people to recycle, re-use and hydrate! You host different events – what are your reasons for doing so and do you think this helps bring footfall into store? Shows, pop up events and parties certainly do have a positive knock on effect with visitor numbers to both the store on online. After the success of previous cat- walk shows held at Bedruthan Steps Hotel and the sell-out ‘Festive Fling’ Christmas charity party held at the HoHouse in Newquay, Roo’s Beach will be hosting yet more in-store events and fashion shows in 2020. These will be in conjunction with key brands such as Levi’s, Free People and American Vintage and to showcase our ever-expanding range of products for the whole family. It’s a chance for the collections to come to life, and customers just love it. Is having an all-female team important to the brand? It’s actually just worked out that way for us. It hasn’t ever been planned, but we are very proud that we are an all-female team working together with a love for fashion, a drive for investment shopping and an energy for something different. That’s why we all love what Roo’s Beach stands for. What have been some standout moments for the company? There certainly has been some standout moments, like outgrowing our little shop in Mawgan Porth and moving to a bigger site in Porth beach around six years ago. It really was tiny compared to what we have now – around a 1/5 of the size! We won the Drapers award for ‘Best Store Design’ in 2015, giving us the confidence we needed to push on and try new ideas within the space, which are still doing to this day. We are always trying new themes within the store and online, and trial new technologies too. We became new members of the online boutique community of Trouva at the beginning of this year and have seen sales grow steadily ever since. How do you envision the future of the footwear industry? Many of the brands we stock are becoming more ethical, offering vegan leather versions and we are finding customers are thankful to have more choice and control over what they can buy from us. We can see more brands jumping on this band wagon over the next year. What’s next for the store? We are excited that we will be introducing some new brands into the store in 2020, such as L.F.Markey, Swildens, IVY Copenhagen, Stripe & Stare, Indie & Cold and Nümph. These will join the current roster, which includes American Vintage, Wildfox, Free People, Bellerose, Veja, Levi Strauss, Mads Nørgaard, Saucony, Leon & Harper, Ottod’Ame and Hartford amongst many others.
