Owner Liz Devine-Wright’s first portfolio, which included the Ascot showpiece collection, is proving to be a runaway success. “We’ve been absolutely delighted with the response, and although it’s early days, we’ve been greatly encouraged by the interest in the new collection,” says Liz, who continues to also trade as a retailer from her specialist hat shop in Tadcaster, Yorkshire. “We took the decision to launch our own collection because after 13 years in the shop, we wanted to grow the business – and we had the experience to understand exactly what customers wanted. We encourage our ladies to not only choose a hat for a special occasion, but to ‘feel’ the whole outfit before they buy the finishing piece. “Obviously creating a new collection and exhibiting has been a whole new experience for us, but it has also been enjoyable and we’ve learned a lot.” However, the planning doesn’t stop there for Simply Devine – Liz is now busily designing her next collection, and fulfilling orders from her first show.
