INDUSTRY NEWS 11 WESTON BEAMOR ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF LIVE PROJECT AT JEWELLERY & WATCH Weston Beamor announced the winner of its Live Project at Jewellery & Watch 2019, with Birmingham City University (BCU) School of Jewellery (SoJ) student Bethan Cubbin emerging victorious. Beth’s winning piece was a delicate ring featuring emerald- and marquise-cut diamonds, with judges stating it hit all aspects of this year’s “cocktail rings” brief. Samantha Conroy and Owen Phillip Lee came in second and third place, respectively. Students participating in the competition were tasked with creating a signature ring around a coloured semi-precious gemstone, which they selected blind from a “lucky dip” bag. Contestants also had to create branding and a retail launch print advert to complement their design. To design a piece of jewellery that is on-trend, can be manufactured at scale and also priced right is no mean feat. It’s fantastic to see this level of skill and passion being developed and nurtured in Birmingham.” A prototype of each ring was produced and displayed at Weston Beamor’s stand at Jewellery & Watch 2019, with all finalists gaining a week’s work experience at the company. The range is said to be softer and more flexible than previous lines, with western and cowboy boots among the shoe types. Other offerings include the biker and hiking boots, which give a nod to the ongoing trend within the market. Caprice has also included sneakers, faux fur-lined boots and animal print designs.
