12 CHAU HAR LEE’S SHOE COLLECTION ON DISPLAY AT YKK LONDON SHOWROOM London-based designer Chau Har Lee is showing her award-winning shoe collection at the YKK London Showroom, which features her flat- packed and 3D-printed shoes. Char, winner of the Accessories Collection of the Year ITS8 Italy, sponsored by YKK, created a collection that interlocks traditional shoemaking with digital manufacturing. Char is said to overlook traditional shoemaking methods, instead redefining the construction of shoe design. She said, “The design approach I took in creating the pieces for the YKK London Showroom is an unconventional shoemaking technique that required the expertise from other disciplines. To achieve this, I needed to employ outside help to create my shoe collection. I received welcomed support from a Hatton Garden jeweller, who created my steel heels with laser welding using heat conduction. I also worked with spray painters from Essex, who created the marble effect on the 3D-printed shoe. Both were really supportive and helped me in creating the intricate and delicate design of the collection.” For more information on the shoes displayed at YKK London Showroom, visit ykklondonshowroom.com or @ykklondonshowroom ACID CREATES NEW STRATEGY FOR DESIGN & IP POLICY Anti Copying In Design (ACID) has produced a blueprint strategy for Design & IP Policy, Safeguarding the Future IP Framework , supported by the ACID Council and leading design-led organisations. According to ACID, the new strategy follows a failure by the government to address trends and challenges in the design sector in recently published research on design rights infringement. The IPO research is said to have failed to provide new insights into design infringement or future- proofing. ACID stated its new strategy would be a solid starting point to address the concerns of the sector. Dids Macdonald, OBE, CEO of ACID and vice chair of the Alliance for Intellectual Property, said, “Endorsed by the government as the UK’s significant voice for Design & IP, I am confident that we can still continue to work with the IPO positively and in collaboration to re-engage with the design sector to ensure that its IP needs are evaluated from a position of market reality, supported by cost and time-effective enforcement. ACID will also work with an independent team to address the issue of design infringement measurement with a view to consolidating our strategy with robust methodology to measure design infringement for the future. This will ensure that policy is anticipatory and, as much as possible, including future-proofing for decades to come.” For more information on the framework, visit acid.uk.com INTERNATIONAL JEWELLERY LONDON PROMOTES KATIE MORRIS TO EVENT DIRECTOR ROLE International Jewellery London (IJL) has announced the appointment of Katie Morris as its new event director.
