Caprice to begin production at Sri Lankan factory

Pirmasens-based shoe manufacturer Caprice is strengthening its commitment in South Asia and will be producing shoes from a production site based in Sri Lanka.

As early as April 2022, Caprice leather shoes for the coming autumn/winter season will be running on the production lines of the shoe factory in Colombo, which is operated jointly with the Pakistani SGF Ltd.

The island state of Sri Lanka has benefited from improved market access to the EU within the framework of the Generalised System of Preferences towards Developing Countries (GSP+) since May, 2017.

Apparel and footwear licensees on board for Care Bears collaborations

Bulldog Licensing, which manages the UK and Eire rights for Care Bears, has announced deals with Brand International for footwear and Aykroyds TDP for a collection of underwear and nightwear. Brand International is set to design an extensive range of footwear for all ages and occasions, based on the heritage bears. Product categories include slippers, footlets, flip flops, sliders, jellies, aqua shoes, trainers, wellies, fashion shoes, and back-to-school shoes.Meanwhile, Aykroyds TDP's range of underwear and nightwear, inspired by the inhabitants of the clouds of Care-A-Lot, will feature pyjamas, onesies, and dressing gowns.

Havaianas doubles its size in Q2 2021

Alpargatas, parent company of flip flop brand Havaianas, has announced net revenue of BRL 1,095 million, up 71 percent year on year. The company has put the growth down to three strategic drivers, advances in international markets, acceleration in online channels, and portfolio expansion with product innovations.Growth in Europe was said to be a key highlight, where volume increased 38 percent, while digitalization is said to be one of the company's strategic pillars. Online sales reached R$ 220 million. Three times higher than Q2 2019 – pre pandemic.

Crocs wins Compassionate Business Award from PETA US

Footwear brand Crocs has won a Compassionate Business Award from PETA US, with the footwear brand having announced it is removing all leather from its designs and will go completely vegan by year end. The decision is part of Crocs' goal of becoming a Net Zero company by 2030. PETA US Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman, said, "Crocs is taking the most effective action possible to cut its carbon footprint and preventing gentle cows from being strung up and slaughtered. PETA is celebrating this conscientious company for taking a big step to bring about the vegan world we all need."

Sustainable footwear brand Ocean Refresh has become the first UK flip-flop brand to achieve the coveted B Corporation Certification for meeting the highest verified levels of environmental performance, economic accountability and social standards. The Manchester-based footwear brand, which also boasts the UK's first 360o RecycleFootwear Programme, hopes the B Corp certification will inspire more UK brands ofall sizes and from all sectors, to undertake the rigorous assessment process to put people and the planet above profits and not just commit to doing less harm, but to do more good.
