woman in silver jewellery, heart necklace and earrings When did you start up and why?
I turned a hobby into a business after my son was born in 2014 and established Holly Silver Jewellery from my kitchen cupboard. After a few years of evolving and growing I moved to a large studio in Kinross to allow for the business growth, leading to a re-brand to By Rebecca Jewellery in 2019. Growing a business as a single mother, my drive to make my business successful was strong in order to provide a future for my son and I. Sharing my story on social media about how my designs represented my life lessons and aiming to empower others, the business evolved from personalised jewellery to more bespoke services that stayed true to my goal of making jewellery that holds a story, your story. By Rebecca Studios in Kinross now has a team of jewellers where we offer a wide range of jewellery in both trade, online and bespoke services such as Reloved Remodelling and Custom Design.

What prompted you to launch the business?
A strive to build a future for myself and my son. To help share my life lessons and inspired jewellery to help promote wellbeing in others.

What challenges have you overcome since the company's launch?
Being a single mother to my child and dealing with the pressure and demands of a growing business is continually difficult but I have never given up. My son has additional support needs, so managing a growing business alongside this, has been additionally challenging. Making jewellery to help promote awareness and education of mine and my son's neurodiversity has also been something I have been focusing on.

Tell us about your product offering.
We offer personalised handmade and bespoke jewellery – using precious metals and gemstones. My designs are made to hold meaning to the customer, promote connection between people and support wellbeing. We also do a bespoke design and remodelling service called Reloved whereby I remodel old sentimental jewellery into a new more modern design - creating a new story from an old one that holds deep meaning to the wearer.

What are your most popular products?
My personalised empowering jewellery like my new range, Superpower is my most popular collection at the moment. My Remodelling Reloved Service has been the biggest growing part of my business – its core value is to hold your story in a new design, often bringing together many generations of family gold and gemstones.

The Outlander Inspired Collections were crazy popular with the Outlander fans where I sell these products globally!

How do you keep your designs fresh and current? Do you follow trends?
I try to design new products based upon the current life lessons I am experiencing at that time. As we grow through life we learn new things every day and I like to embody that in my designs in the hope they resonate with others.

What sets you apart from your competitors?
The love and care that I put into my designs, each piece holds a story which can be unique to every different person. I like to think I listen to my customers story and make sure its embodied in their design.

How are you finding the current economic climate in the UK? Is it affecting business? It has been tough since the pandemic but I have been astounded at the support I have received from my loyal customers. My Reloved remodelling service has taken off which has been really special.

Are you active on social media? How is this important for the business? Yes, daily! But I have to find a balance and make sure it's not taking over my day. I love to share my stories, inspirations for designs, new designs and custom pieces via social media and its very important to my business as it helps people remain connected to me.

Do you have any advice for new businesses starting out in the world of gifts? Be authentic and stay true to yourself. Don't focus on what others are doing, just focus on making sure you connect to your reason WHY you are doing it and stay true to your business values.

What can we expect in the future from the company? We are expanding our custom services within the business alongside growing our wholesale offering. 2024 will see more Scottish themed jewellery to offer to our trade customers. My mission with my business is to spread love and joy and empower those who wear my jewellery with their own personal growth. I hope that I can help others through the life lessons I have learnt thus far.
